MacBook Pro 2022 release date, M2 chip, price, and more. Here’s everything we know about the 2022 MacBook Pro rumor!
Apple is rumored to have plans for a 2022 MacBook Pro, and all indicators so far point to a new entry-level MacBook Pro with Apple’s next big silicon novelty.
This is potentially huge because last year Apple significantly rocked the laptop market with the launch of the current entry-level MacBook Pro M1. This 13-inch Pro brought unprecedented improvements in performance and efficiency over its predecessors, thanks in large part to the power of the M1 chip.
It was so good that it catapulted the 13in Pro to the top of our list of the best laptops you can buy. Since then, Apple has released the redesigned 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro with its choice of M1 Pro or M1 Max chips, but those systems start at $ 1,999 and $ 2,499, respectively.

But now Apple has a new Pro set to debut in 2022, a model that could well replace the $ 1,299 13-inch M1 Pro as an entry-level model. If it incorporates the clever design changes we’ve seen in the pros of 2021 while improving its predecessor in the same way that all of Apple’s M1 MacBook’s have, the 2022 MacBook Pro could be one of the bigger versions of it. ‘Apple of the year.

MacBook Pro 2022 rumored release date
Apple hasn’t announced plans to launch a new MacBook Pro in 2022, and until it does, we won’t have a clear idea of when such a product will launch.
However, that didn’t stop us from thinking and forecasting a bit. Apple forecaster and Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman have claimed that Apple is planning many product launches for 2022, including a cheaper MacBook Pro with an M2 power supply. The release cycle for Apple products is predictable enough that we can make a reasonably informed estimate of the release date for the next MacBook Pro: Fall 2022, between September and December.
That would be roughly a year after the big debut of Apple’s new 2021 MacBook Pro, and two years after the company introduced the original 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 and MacBook Air with M1. And with Apple also slated to launch a new 2022 MacBook Air next year, it makes sense for the company to introduce them together again at the end of the year.
MacBook Pro 2022 price speculation
Until we hear the official word from Apple, we won’t know for sure what the price of the expected 2022 MacBook Pro will be.
But based on everything we’ve heard so far, it seems likely that said MacBook Pro‘s starting price will be under $ 2,000 and possibly as low as $ 1,299 to $ 1,499. This speculation is based entirely on the fact that the 2022 MacBook Pro would be a new entry-level model, and since the current entry-level Pro is the older 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1 (starting price of 1299 $), a replacement. It will probably stick to the same price list pretty much.
That said, there is good reason to believe that Apple could go up a bit more with the starting price of a new 2022 MacBook Pro. The 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro costs about $ 100 more than its predecessor, for example, and the smaller one. 14 inches. Pro saw a similar price increase. So if Apple tries something similar with a new Pro next year, we’d expect the starting price of a new 2022 MacBook Pro to drop to $ 1,499.
MacBook Pro 2022 design
Few details have yet emerged on what to expect from a new MacBook Pro 2022 in terms of design changes. The internal design of these machines has been the most popular topic of discussion so far, as rumors have it that the next Pro will include a whole new piece of silicone from Apple: the Apple M2 chip.
Externally, it’s reasonable to expect Apple to bring design enhancements from the 2021 MacBook Pros to a new model in 2022. That means a flatter bezel with thinner edges around the screen, although if Apple aims to cut costs on this Entry-level pro, you could just ditch the mini-LED displays we love in the 2021 Pros in favor of a cheaper Retina IPS LCD screen like those found on the MacBook Air.
We also expect to see the addition of an HDMI output and an SD card reader alongside the usual add-on of Thunderbolt 4 ports. Personally, I expect a new Pro in 2022 to have the same charging port. MagSafe 3 that Apple introduced in the 2021 Pros because it’s easy to use and I like having the option to charge via MagSafe 3 or USB-C.
Plus, don’t be surprised if the MacBook Pro 2022 is designed with a notch in the top frame. A notch surrounds the built-in webcam on the 2021 Pros and despite the issues, the notch is fine. You really get used to it.
MacBook Pro 2022 specs
The most exciting thing we’ve heard so far about the specs for a new MacBook Pro in 2022 is Mark Gurman’s report that it will contain the Apple M2 chip. The word is that the M2 will sport the same 8-core processor as the original M1 chip (albeit running at higher clock speeds), but with a 10-core GPU instead of the 8-core GPU in the M1.
If that works, we could be in a situation where, just like in November 2020, Apple will introduce a new MacBook Pro and a new MacBook Air with the M2 chip in 2022. However, we’ll have to wait and see. . how the updated entry-level Pro chip compares to the M1 Pro and M1 Max, the upgraded M1 chips that Apple included in the 2021 Pro.
MacBook Pro 2022 outlook
While we still know very little about Apple’s plans to launch a new MacBook Pro in 2022, what we’ve heard so far is good reason to be optimistic about your chances of seeing one. Apple has been steadily going strong on the IT front since it released its first M1-powered MacBooks in late 2020, and late 2022 seems like the optimal time to launch an updated entry-level MacBook Pro with an improved M2 chip.
What’s more intriguing is the prospect of comparing the performance of a new 2022 MacBook Pro to that of 2021 pros with their M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. They’re already so fast that you just have to wonder: how good will the supposed M2 chip be?
The updated M1 Max chip in our 16-inch MacBook Pro 2021 review unit delivered absolutely beastly performance, especially when working with video, and it’s hard to imagine a new entry-level MacBook Pro that surpasses that range. But then our review unit was priced at over $ 4,000, so we’d expect the 2022 MacBook Pro to start at under $ 1,500. How will they accumulate?
We’ll have to wait and see to get one to try when the next MacBook Pro is finally released.
